Sounds like an error with VLC not recognizing Theora. This may be an issue with the player, not the codec. You may want to send a message to their mailing list/forums/support service.

Subject: [Matroska-users] Problems with Theora in VLC

I'm having a bit a trouble getting a .mkv file working in VLC (0.8.6d )
when it contains a Theora stream. Any audio in the file plays fine, but
no video, and the messages says:

mkv error: unknown codec id='V_THEORA'
main error: no suitable decoder for module for fourcc 'undf'.
VLC probably does not support this sound or video format.

I can play the video when it's in it's original ogg container.

Any ideas?
