Thanks for the last two responses, it shows that someone cares.

Now on to what i found out, it seems like all the safe guards that vista has was causing the mkv tools that i have to crash.
I found that if i turned off vista defender and the user account control that certain programs will now work.
I now use TMPEG x-PRESS to do the processing. Sometimes when i have a file with multiple audio i have to remove the audio because i think that TMPEG doesn't know which one to use and all i will get is static.
Once the processing is done i convert the audio to mp3 and process it back in with the video, and all is right with the world again.
Alot of work and time but, what you gonna do.

And by the way don't give it a second thought about speaking badly about vista, they deserve it, and i knew what i was in for.

I hope this will help at least one person, then it was worth it. thanks again.

To be honest, I'm not sure if either of those will work. I think the
only formats that WMM treats well are DV and WMV, so the container
(AVI vs. ASF) may be moot if the audio and video have to be
transcoded too.

As much as I hate to say it (and I try to keep my opinions about
operating systems off of mailing lists, but...) Vista is your problem
all around. It's one huge DRM machine that's been proven to run at
HALF the speed of Windows XP. So many things broke between the two
OSes, many in the name of progress (read: DRM and content control).
Normally, I'd evangelize Mac OS X (not an option for you, I'm
guessing) or Linux. However, I'm not going to be too pushy here, and
I'm going to say that unless there's something in Vista that you have
a crushing, serious, live-and-death need for, that you should go find
a copy of Windows XP and install that.

Well, here's the problem (besides Vista... sorry!), Vista is such a
new OS, and many major changes have been made that small/open source
developers haven't had time to try and revamp their software to be
Vista-compatible. You might want to try ffmpeg. It's a CLI-tool for
Linux that should have a build for Windows. You might have to demux
the subtitles, but (if it runs) ffmpeg (and related tools) should
churn out a functional MPEG-2 or Video_TS file/folder.

Sorry again for the short rant on Vista.

Wait and see what? I like vista, I think matroska has to catch up. What good is a container when you can't open it with the tools that are out there. Even when i was using XP burning was difficult. It's harder now with vista but i think matroska should have more advice than wait and see or change my os. Was that even a whole sentance?

hi, i'm having a problem with converting mkv movies to dvd so i could burn them to dvd.
i downloaded "convert x to dvd" but it will not work with "windows vista".
i am not new to this convertion thing, i know a little.
i have searched far and wide to find software that will convert mkvs and work with "vista", but i have had no luck finding such a program.
TMPEG XPRESS works on some of them but either it will leave out the subs or it will leave out the audio.
i now have a movie with no audio, so i figured i would extract the audio from the original and have TMPEG mux it in but i can't even find anything that will work on mkvs and "vista". I need your help! thanks

First, I'm not a MKV developper, I'm just a user. Wath I mean by "wait
and see" is that you may give time to the developers to do their work.
Vista is new, and a lot of work is needed to port the tools.

(and sorry for my english, I hope you understand me)

Sorry about the way i reacted. I miss understood what you were saying. I understand now. thanks for your time. Be COOL.

On top of that Vista is expensive and not needed for any of the work we
do... Anyway none of the MKV->DVD tools are made by any of us. So you
can only contact the people who do these softwares and tell them about
the issues.

Steve
