Windows uses a centralized codec management system, where all audio  
and video codecs are controlled by Windows. Core Player probably  
obeys that. This means that neither Core nor the Video are broken,  
but you're just missing a codec. It's probably AAC or Vorbis you're  
missing. You might want to try VLC, instead, though. It has a myriad  
of codecs included, internally, so that it can't mess up your video  
system.
