Yes, you will have to convert the MKV into MPEG2 for DVD/S-VCD, MPEG1
for VCD creation or into a MPEG4ASP AVI, depending on what your
standalone player will support. Only few players will support MPEG4,
most of them are showing the label 'DivX certified' . If your player
doesn't have this, read here :

(supported in almost any standalone unit) or better a DVD (if you have a
DVD burner) and report back if the method has worked for you or not.
