A much better question is, Why does it fail instead of skipping the unknown

It's all my fault. I use the "trunk" version on mkvmerge that I compiled
myself. This version and not the 0.9x series has the new elements
supported. But that's also part of the things not released yet...

So you'll have to be more patient, or compile the softwares yourself ;)
