hi!i have some trouble about viewing the .mkv... files...i tried to play with different players but it doesn't work like it has...normally i play video with Zoomplayer or Mediaplayer Classic. sometimes audio is good but there are some problems with video that's not fluently and sometimes get freeze...i don t know what to do right now... the file is a Metallica's concert live in korea and it has more than 6Gb...

These symptoms may be caused by different reasons.
1) You have an outdated set of codecs, filters are damaged or improperly
installed. Try removing all codecs and install CCCP codecs pack
(http://www.cccp-project.net/)
2) The file is HD video, and require high performance from your system. If you
are experiencing similar problems with other files with HD video, the best
solution would be to upgrade your PC.
3) The file may be corrupted, for example as a result of incomplete downloading.

your CPU is too weak for 1080p, consider upgrading or try using Corecodec's H264-software-decoder.

Hello,

I just bought a home theater system that has a USB port and is DIVX
certified, like many other systems like that.
All of these systems can play movies (in .avi and DIVX format) strait off
the USB key drive.

As most bluray and HD movies on files today seems to be encoded with H264
and .mkv format, I wanted to ask if you know if there are any devices that
will play that strait from a drive without being connected to a computer.
Alternative, is there a plan to have anything that will play these things in
the future?

Hello Amir,

a neat device for HD-playback from an external (USB) harddisk (I don't  
know about USB thumbdrives) is the Western Digital HD Media Player, as  
seen on http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?driveid=572 .
I'm positive that it allows playback of 720p and 1080p/i H264 videos in  
Matroska, and I think it can also play back MPEG-4 ASP (MPEG-4 part 2)  
encoded videos like ones using DivX or XviD, though you should gather  
reassuring info about that yourself. The device costs about 100$, and  
you'll need an external USB-HD, ostensibly.

I am sorry, but from your question its becoming obvious that you havent
understood what a video container like AVI or MKV actually is. Both are just
containers, the size of the files is defined by the audio and video stream
compression types and the bitrates used during compression.

MKV is the more modern container, allowing for video and audio compression
technologies to be used, which can not be properly used in AVI files, and
will allow to shrink the size of the file considerably. However, there can
be two files, one being MKV and the other being AVI, containing the same
audio and video streams and being of very similar file size. Got the point ?
