Hi Vlada,
yes, there is a lot going on behind the scenes for the time being, but
unfortunately most of this is secret stuff and cant be put on a public
webpage. Still, i agree our website urgently needed updating, but we're
all just human beings and working on our maximum limits.
About Fb2k, we can not do the work of the devs for them. matroska has
gained some popularity meanwhile, and we will always make sure to have
at least one working playback possibility for the stuff we are doing.
With the Fb2k project we have been very kind and supportive during the
last years, it was always us updating the MKA plugin for them.
As we are getting more and more involved with much more important stuff
than a single audio player, it is now the job of the player developers
to bring their player up-to-date. We don't have the time nor the
motivation to do so any longer.

Christian

I dont know if you have come across it in your travels, but there is a program for converting most things to most things called Xilisoft (3GP) video converter (3gp being the version i have...
When i put a subbed mkv file into it, it does almost recognise it, like 5.1 sound, sample codec and such like, but messes up on the total time, says something like half a million hours or something..!
well, just thought id bring it to light, maybe they'll be willing to work together with you, for turning mkv into avi/divx/rawvideo(etc) for dvd burning and general watchers...?
Hope i was of some use..!

Hi, Matroska is not related to DrDivX. It just happened that I put these
files on my own account some time ago.
Now DrDivX (currently beta9) comes with DrFFMPEG in the installer, so
the version on matroska.org is not needed anymore.

That's strange because the duration is written as a float so can hardly
be interpreted wrong... Unless it's read as an integer!

Hi,
just out of curiosity i was testing Michal Benes latest win32 mingw
compile of gstreamer today, as a binary in his Ixion player on
http://gstreamer.xeris.cz , and using his DirectX sinks.
Here is what i could play fine (with almost 100% CPU, but working ) :
MKA with Vorbis, MP3 ; not supported : AAC 5.1, FLAC, Wavpack
MKV with MPEG4V2, DivX, XviD, h.264 (slow) ; not suported : Realvideo
Unfortunately i had no other test files on my laptop, but this is
exciting !! Imagine a world without Microsoft DirectShow !!! Think of a
powerful, true x-platform media player based on Gstreamer !
Michal, congratulations. The player is still pretty unstable, as you are
certainly aware, but this is definitely a very good start ! Please keep
us in the loop, should you require more alpha testing.

Ogg Dirac sounds new to me.

So, is OggFile the official container for Dirac?
Interesting, but I'm not sure if this is good news or bad
news.

Given how ogg sucks at video (think about seeking, chapters or tagging)
it's probably a bad news that it's been chosen when Matroska is
supported on most OSS platforms.
Ogg is not the official format for Dirac, it's MXF.

Hi!
I am currently downloading a torrent which is a mkv anime video. It's total size is 395 MB and I have downloaded about 11 MB of it. I have download Matroska Full Pack 1.1.2 and The Core Media Player and have used the Matroska CDL plugin while using that player. But still it doesn't play that partially downloaded mkv file and it shows an error that the first element in the file is not EBML and hence it is unable to play that file. I have attached the corresponding log file along with this E-Mail. Please inform me as soon as you find out anything and please reply. I have tried out everything and am TOTALLY frustrated. Please Reply!!!

Hi,
your question is not really related to Matroska,
but related to how BT works.
Anyway, if it were the first 11 MB of 395 MB MKV it
would play, but that's not the case because most bt clients get
the pieces in a random order.
Your imagination:
- I have [1][2][3]...[11] of [1][2][3]...[395] but [1][2][3]...
doesn't play.
Reality:
- You have [24][39][65][98] or something like that.

Hi!
well, there is one thing you have not tried out before writing to every
Matroska list possible. You have not read torrent FAQ. Torrents can not
generally be played before they are _completely_ downloaded. This has
nothing to do with Matroska.

Michal

Hi folks,
unfortunately, I do not work on the Windows port anymore. Therefore,
our web page can be somewhat outdated. But there is an active community
(one of the most active developers is Sebastien Moutte) among GStreamer
community pushing the work further. I know they did very much since my
attempts but I do not know if anybody is working on a GUI player. I
think this is a pity, precompiled binaries for Windows with GUI player
could attract many new GStreamer developers from Windows world.

Subject: [Matroska-general] Matroska Dvd Conversion
Message-ID:
A two part question.
As stated by the DVD conversion guide on the matroska site, the Matroska
file should be able to be played on Windown Media Player Classic. However
each each time I attempt to open the file with Windows media player classic
it freezes on me yet it works fine with the newest version of Windows media
player as well as on ZoomPlayer. Is this a problem when it comes to MKV to
DVD conversion?
Also when converting some MKV file before the actual conversion starts a box
pops up saying
"The file contains embedded truetype fonts. Do you want to load these
fonts?" Should I select yes or no? And does this have any effect if I wish
to extract the subtitles from the file?
Thankyou in advance for your time and help.

No it shouldn't. BTW it's a good idea to test with Microsoft's Windows
Media as DVD Santa will use the same filters.

No, it's just if you want to display text subtitles with the provided
font. I don't think DVD Santa can support text subtitles, so there's no
point, yes and no will produce the same result.
