It doesn't look like many people care.  I don't care enough to change it. 
But it is all in SVN, so it would be a small (although time taking) activity 
to change all of the references there.  Feel free to do this.

Thanks. I fixed some other problems too.
Among other things, the following file was in a 
messed-up encoding (Shift_JIS with UTF-8 BOM),
which I converted into UTF-8 with UTF-8 BOM.

This is already handled by the SSI code. That's why you need to add the 
extra element whenever you add a new language to a page...

I tried to reencode only the first 30 seconds, and the error still occurs, even
without audio and chapters. The video plays fine as mp4, but in the mkv it shows
the error explained above.
Can I upload the file somewhere to get the but fixed?

Not sure if its good or not, so...

Would it be possible to add encryption to the container so that you
have to enter a password each time you wanna access the streams
inside?

Having some heavy encryption (1024bit or higher) would make it hard
for the police to proof whats on ya HDD or DVDs after storming ya
house... ^^ There could be even support for standalones (directly or
via firmware hacks) !!!


Think about it...

Would give you a warm feeling of security n' keeping ya privacy, would
be awesome!

We have defined something for encryption in EBML. But so far it's not used.

Yes, but if _you_ can read the content, the police can ask/force you to 
decrypt what you have. In most countries it's illegal to have encrypted 
stuff that the police cannot decypher...

We've been thinking about that already. But in the end, there is nothing 
really secure. At least not for stuff you downloaded on the net.

Hi,

here my comments and officially to the list instead of using IRC :

1. I would like to see a way for Pro users to, something like an 
'advanced' or 'setup' button, allowing to select or unselect the filters 
that are going to be installed. In this window, we could also allow the 
user to enable AVI and MP4 playback support for Haali's splitter.

2. It is highly recommended to add something like a Disclaimer, 
informing users that they install the pack on their own risk. Else 
Satsuki, being the author of the pack, may get sued from some moron 
who's PC doesnt work anymore after installing the matroska pack. I know 
some team members hate this kind of stuff, but as i said on IRC already, 
unfortunately the world sometimes doesnt work the way we would like it 
to work.
This disclaimer can be a small line saying 'use on your own risk' or, a 
bit more precise  'Although this software has been thoroughly tested, it 
is possible that some filters may interfere with other installed 
software on your PC, with negative results on the performance of certain 
software programs or functionalities. In this case, we recommend to 
uninstall the pack, or the interfering software' .
This disclaimer can also be a bit hidden, for example under a short note 
about the licenses used for most fo the apps, as long as its there its 
fine !

3. Also, as said already in another email about the pack, i would add 
the following mechanisms in the installer :
- detect old matroska splitter and remove it, or better set VERY low 
merit ( elder Zoomplayer versions will insist on matroskasplitter, 
because of Toff's DShow interface to read track header info, which is 
missing in Haali's splitter ) - Haali's splitter installer is doing this 
fine already
- detect MPC and disable internal splitter ( same, like in Haali filter )
- detect  Realplayer installed and send warning in BIG RED letters there 
will be no Realvideo playback from MKV without either Realplayer or 
RealAlternative being installed
- detect ffdshow settings and DISABLE wmv playback ( important !! 
installing matroska pack 1.0.3 will break WMV playback on some machines, 
because of this )
Apart from that, great work !! Looking forward to the release :)

It's a good idea to release a new pack. :)
But I would wait till Gabest will release a new VSFilter version. A lot of 
Zoomplayer users have problems with v 2.36 in combination with Zoomplayer and 
Haali's splitter. Subtitles aren't displayed.

"btw, to get subs to work with this splitter, you need DirectVobSub v2.37 or 
whatever gabest will call it when he eventually releases it. Cause in 2.36 
there's a bug on certain systems that makes the video appear totally black and 
2.33 doesn't work at all as it won't connect to the splitter....Well, gabest has 
fixed the problem for the official one, I have a fixed build here, just waiting 
for him to do it officially."

Concerning MatroskaProp2.8.:
Yesterday I installed a new WinXP.
Today I installed MProp again, but "msvcr71.dll" was missing in my system.
Maybe it's a good idea if this .dll would be installed within your new pack to 
get it working without seperate downloading & copying this .dll into system 
folder...

Thanks for the input filewalker, seems like the new pack will have to 
wait a bit anyhow, as i am being a bastard and bombarding Satsuki with a 
lot of changes, like

1. a pro mode allowing people to activate MP4 and AVI parsing in Haali's 
splitter, and also to deactivate stuff they don't need

2. a short disclaimer ( the one from the old pack was long, but nobody 
complained about it ... plus it was giving info on what players should 
be used for MKV playback )

3. some safety mechanisms like
- detect old matroska splitter and remove it, or better set VERY low 
merit ( elder Zoomplayer versions will insist on matroskasplitter, 
because of Toff's DShow interface to read track header info, which is 
missing in Haali's splitter ) - Haali's splitter installer is doing this 
fine already
- detect MPC and disable internal splitter ( same, like in Haali filter )

I would like to know if there is a quick simple solution to create
multiple video angles for matroska. I am trying to encode a source
that has two types of video angles where only certain parts of the
video need different angles. Is there a way to create it so that it
can look at certain time periods, where it doesn't need two different
angles, and let that portion be considered both angles at that time
period, while at certain other time periods it uses two different
video files to be used for each angle?

That can be done using Editions. However, this is not exactly a _quick_ 
solution...
MKVMerge can already process XML files describing editions, and AVI-Mux GUI
also can (on my HDD...), but i'll have to do more testing and a bit 
bug-fixing before
I can release that.

it means that the Splitter can?t show any Unicode characters.

I don't have issues with chapter names like
Aliz?e - Temp?te

so you probably speak about the b0rked Nero MP4 files or are
using a b0rked muxing app

False. AVI is compatible with vorbis if you store it correctly, but it
will waste huge amounts of space (up to 168 bytes per frame, I think!)
and thus it's not very useful. Read Michael's past posts about how it
works.. ffmpeg supports making avi files with vorbis audio now. :)

Did anyone check to see how this is done?  It looks like they would have to 
keep the encoder from using shorter packets, dramatically decreasing the 
efficiency of it.  Or does Dick not know Jack?

"storing correctly" means building "macro frames" of constant duration,
which is not decodeable as long as the crappy decoders don't handle
receiving several frames at once...

If it indeed works, then it's clear that
 - there is a new Vorbis decoder fixing that issue or
 - it is (unlike mp3 or aac) a hack or
 - it requires a special or additional filter
and
 - he certainly doesn't understand how it works

and I certainly won't try it... however, if anyone of you wants to try it,
make a small sample file (whether it plays properly or not doesn't matter),
and send it to me, and i'll have a look at it

OK, it looks like adding read support for them to avi-mux gui is not
too hard, write support, however, is a different thing. But I promise
that I won't use 750 samples per chunk...

This usually means that your codec doesnt support video switching. Try
another one.

codec seems to be fine here. i can use it in exactly the same stream 
configuration but in mkv container [with your splitter]. i also used it to 
switch streams in ogm with oggds. it's dix 5.2.1. i'm only having this prob 
with mp4.

I had exactly the same problem with all characteristics mentioned above. It was 
only with one file. When i muxed other Nero mp4 videos and aac sound i've never 
met that problem. I used latest haali splitter.

Hi.
When i select mkv file in explorer shell, windows tries to preview it and after 
i select somethibg another, haali splitter's tray icon don't dissappear within 
5-10 minutes. When i select several files one by one, several icons remain 
hanging in tray for some time. How could i solve that problem without disabling 
preview? Or maybe the problem in this build of win2000?

I've got an imcompatability issue with MPC & Haali when playing back files 
created with ASF2MKV (by Gabest). What happens is that when using the Haali 
splitter for matroska it stalls on the initial opening of the file. To start 
playback the video first must be stopped (press the stop button), then started 
(press the play button) this results in the video playing. This does not 
happen when using Gabest's splitter.
